Sixth Street Community Center CSA

“For 14 years the Sixth Street Community Center CSA has provided its members with the freshest and best tasting produce available from local farms. Since 1996 more than 200 different varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs are provided June to November from our partner farms, Hepworth Farm in Ulster County, New York and Catalpa Ridge Farm in Sussex County, New Jersey.

Beginning in 2002, Sixth Street Community Center CSA has offered its members fruits and vegetables in the winter and spring months from late November to mid-May through Winter Sun Farms and other distributors.

Our CSA also offers wild Alaskan coho, sockeye and king salmon, cod, halibut and rockfish as well as olive oil, wines, honey, vinegars, and other specialty items. And this last season we started a raw milk and cheese club.”

To us, the sustainable production is the result of having a respect for the environment and community that are the source of the ingredients and materials that make up the product. This respect is manifested in terms such as organic (whether certified or not), biodynamic, integrated pest management and sustainable. We are proud that many of the exceptional products we offer are produced in this manner and we hope to continue to support artisan producers both in the U.S. and abroad.

“I’m a 3rd Generation Baozi/Mantou maker. My grandpa used to sell baozi and mantou in Taiwan so we’ve come full circle. Except, this time around, I wanted to improve on the old prototype. Gone are the MSG and “color treated” meats you see in Chinatown. I use Niman Ranch antibiotic/hormone free pork and Certified Angus Skirt Steak. Our Guerrilla Cooking Methods are also 90% energy efficient and remove a lot of barriers to entry for young, independent, small-businesses.”
